U Street Corridor is a residential and commercial district in northwest Washington, DC, The district is centered along a nine-block stretch from 9th to 18th Streets on U Street. Much of the housing is located within mixed-use buildings, where the ground floor is home to shopping destinations. There are a few purely residential buildings available as well.

U Street Corridor is a hip and lively area that is known for its great nightlife and plentiful shopping and dining. Being set within Washington DC, U Street Corridor has a bustling city vibe, complete with easy accessibility through public transportation, up-tempo nightlife, and something new always cropping up on the social calendar. The area also has quite a bit of historical significance. Considered to be the backbone of DC’s jazz, arts, and civil rights movements, U Street Corridor continues to be a cultural center for art and music.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

As mentioned, there are plenty of places to shop and eat along the U Street Corridor. With a sense of eclecticism, you can find just about anything you could want or need in terms of dining or shopping. The following are just a few of the many options in the area. 
 
When looking for a go-to restaurant, try the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl. Known for its chili dogs, half-smokes, and milkshakes, Ben’s Chili Bowl has been a landmark since 1958. The restaurant is also frequented by celebrities and politicians. Another great place to try out is Lulu’s Wine Garden, a hip restaurant serving sandwiches, toasts, and salads alongside wine and cocktails, and on the weekend, there’s brunch. Also available in the area is The Fainting Goat, a gastropub offering New American cuisine alongside cocktails, beers, and wines.
 
When looking to shop in the area, one of the best places to check out is Lee’s Flower and Card Shop. This charming shop offers a large variety of gift options, from flower arrangements to teddy bears and sweets, with available delivery options. If you’re looking for a clothing upgrade, try Ezra Paul Clothing. This men’s clothing store offers high-end Italian clothing as well as custom suits. On the other hand, Brightside is a great boutique for women’s clothing, accessories, and beauty products. 

Things to Do

There are also many great activities available in the area. Whether you want to go to a local park or take in an event, there will be something for you to experience in the U Street Corridor.
 
When looking to spend a day out in nature, a popular park to visit in the area is Meridian Hill Park. This 12-acre urban park was designed and built between 1912 and 1940 and has beautiful features, including a cascading waterfall and several historical statues. Another park of note in the area is Harrison Playground, a playground for all ages with a basketball court, a baseball field, and a playground.

As for events, one of the most popular to attend is the Funk Parade. This free, annual event celebrates funk music, visual arts, and U Street’s diverse cultural history. A great venue to visit in the area is 9:30 Club, a nightclub and concert venue that is rated as one of the top ten live music venues in America, as well as “Venue of the Decade” in 2019.
